In survey after survey 'public speaking' is often placed as a fear worth than being buried alive or even death itself! Since my first tentative steps onto the stage as (probably) shepherd no. 2 in the junior school nativity this has fortunately not been the case for me.
It has been my honour and priviledge to be recognised by my peers as an expert in my field and asked to present at financial services conferences and seminars the length and breadth of Britain as well as across the globe.
In Britain I have presented to the four corners of the compass. As far North as Elgin in Scotland and as far South as Penzance. Across the Irish Sea I have presented in Belfast and Kerry and completing the British Isles I've trodden the boards in Cardiff, Jersey and Guernsey.
Recent international speaking engagements include Europe, Hong Kong, Canada and the United States.
I have been fortunate to share the stage with professional speakers from stage, sports and the business world.
My media CV has included a regular monthly slot on Bloomberg TV 'Ask the IFA', and appearances on BBC1 Breakfast and CNBC. I have guested on various radio programmes including BBC Radio 4 Moneybox Live and BBC Radio Five Live, including their Budget panel. I have been a regular contributor to many professional magazines and websites and have written articles for various consumer financial publications.
I have taken this experience and am able to utilise it to deliver worksite seminars on various financial subjects. I specialise in taking the dry, and dare I say it, often dull, world of financial services and making it if not entertaining, highly informative and most importantly, understandable.
After these sessions frequently received comments are along the lines of "this is the first time I have understood my work pension". I am a big believer that unless employer paid benefits are explained to employees, then those benefits should be viewed as a cost rather than an investment. In other words, unless employees understand and appreciate the benefits, it is wasted money that could be better used elsewhere in the business.
The usual format is for one or more seminar type sessions, attended by any interested staff. Topics tend to be along the lines of 'pensions' or 'financial planning 101'. These sessions are often followed by one-to-one meetings (see Financial Education & Money Guidance section of this website)
Employees then have the opportunity to discuss their financial questions in a confidential setting. All employees are presented with a basic financial healthcheck that they can take away and take action on if they wish.
